OBITUARY: James ‘Jim’ Hillis

James “Jim” Hillis of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away after a long illness on Monday, September 18, 2023. He was 76 years old.

Born in McMinnville, TN to the late Morgan and Vera (Donaldson) Hillis, Jim is also preceded in death by his brother Ricky Hillis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Dorothy Ann (Adkins) Hillis; his children Terry Hillis, Jamie Hillis, Tracy Swank, Morgan-Leigh Gordon, Travis Hillis; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and other beloved extended family and dear friends.

Jim retired from the Metro Nashville Police Department after 25 years of service. He was a strong and silent type of man, but always caring and giving of his time. Devoted to his faith and family, Jim could usually be found at home on his days off. He loved reading the Bible and westerns. Jim and Dot enjoyed rides in the country and long walks. The cherished memories made will live in our hearts forever.

A visitation for Jim will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Eastland Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 904 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN.

Following the visitation will be a 2:30 PM graveside service officiated by pastor Darin Miller, at Mount Olivet Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN.
