Mr. James ‘JE’ McMurtry of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, he was 83 years old.

He was the founder and owner of JE McMurtry Disposal Service and was a pillar of the Greater Nashville Community. James has been around the trash business all of his life.

He started working for his father, Tom McMurtry, who had a trash disposal business. James branched out with his own trash disposal business in the late 1950s. He asked his brother, William, to come to work for him in the 70s and both played a vital role in growing JE McMurtry Disposal Service to what it is today.

James always believed in offering quality service to his customers. He never strived to be the biggest in the Waste Industry but instead strived to be the best.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara McMurtry; brothers, William & Charlie McMurtry; sister, Perry McMurtry.

He is survived by his daughters, Tanya McMurtry & Sherrie Brown; grandchildren, Kimberly, Erica (Jeremy), Tandi (Alex), Kirstie & Kayleigh; great-grandchildren, Grace, Faith, Logan, London, Lilyann, Layla, Luke, Claire, Connor, Adilynn, Allie, Asher & Elijah; sister, Marla Gregory; nieces & nephews; “#1 son”, Bobby Taylor.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 pm, Monday from 4 to 8 pm, and Tuesday from 11 am until time of Service at 1:00 pm at Bethel Church of the Nazarene. Interment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
