Ida Beth Davis Burgess Obit

Ida Beth Davis Burgess, age 94, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on December 28, 2025. She was born in Humphreys County, Tennessee on May 31, 1931, to the late Robert Clinton and Odie Pickard Davis and graduated from Waverly Central High School in 1949.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Raymond Newsome Burgess. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family as she was also preceded by sisters, Janette Austin and Joann Larkin and brothers, Bob, Bill and Max Davis and their spouses.

Beth is survived by her three sons, Ray (Gail), Barry (Dee), and Rob (Martha); and her 6 grandchildren, Bret (Jessica), Kyle (Lacey), Drew (Morgan), Ben (Dara), Adam (Courtlyn) and Elizabeth Shaver (Colten). She was the proud great-grandmother of 10 (soon to be 11): Brooks, Jack, Emerson, Jones, Ellie Rae, Grayson, Lakelynne, Reese, Blakely, and Abram, with baby Emma due later this month.

“Aunt” Beth was also much loved by many nieces and nephews, both from her Davis family and also from her Burgess family in Virginia, with whom she was close despite the distance.

Beth was a homemaker who excelled at cooking, sewing, and gardening. She took pride in an immaculate home, well-kept lawn and beautiful flowers. She was a gracious hostess, welcoming family and friends into her home and always ready to serve up some sweet tea and one of her delicious homemade desserts or what she had on hand. She loved cooking special meals on holidays and birthdays, but her Christmas candy was something the family looked forward to each year!

Beth was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Tusculum, where she and Raymond attended for many decades. She enjoyed going to the Tuesday Ladies’ Bible Class while she was able.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Laura Qualls, who was a caregiver during this past year.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Beth’s memory to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc. or to the Nashville Inner City Ministry are welcome.

Visitation with the family will be held at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. A graveside service officiated by Harvey Hearn will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery (Terrace Garden) on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
