Herbert Douglas

Herbert Douglas Hardcastle (Doug), left God’s beautiful Earth to join his Lord and Savior for eternity on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Doug was given the gift of 76 years of life filled with adventures of all sizes, tall tales (some embellished and some significantly embellished), and an abundance of friends and family to share them with.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lillian Lee Hastings Hardcastle, father Owen Clyde Hardcastle, brother Richard Owen Hardcastle, and his best dog Josie.

He is survived by his wife Donna Marie Hardcastle, son Owen Douglas Hardcastle, daughter-in-law Claudia Ford Hardcastle, daughter Londa Karmese Hardcastle-Morgan, son-in-law Philip Daniel Morgan, and grandchildren Sadie Leigh Hardcastle, Lilian Jane Hardcastle, Adeline Mae Hardcastle, Eaton Douglas Morgan, Philip Knox Morgan, and Neva Marie Morgan.

In his life, Doug has been an engineer, sailor, and master hunter. He’s been a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and a mentor. He worked hard, played hard, and impacted many through his knowledge and generosity.

Doug grew up in Nashville, in the Inglewood area. He was blessed with a large family that included more aunts, uncles, and cousins than we could count. He carried on his family traditions of large family gatherings with his own family. The Hardcastle home has been well known for birthday parties, pumpkin carvin’ parties, school parties – a welcoming place to gather for a special occasion or no occasion at all.

Doug was an accomplished man. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University’s College of Engineering, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, and he served his country as an officer in the Army for 3 years. He enjoyed a successful career as a general contractor, business owner, and leader. He dedicated his career to Hardcastle Construction Company, Inc. and had the opportunity to work alongside his father, brother, son, daughter, and granddaughter. He found success in his hobbies, never just participating, but always contributing. He was an active member of the Nashville Gun Club, Heart’s Desire Hunting Club, and Isaac Litton Alumni communities. Of all his success, he was most proud of the success he experienced through his friendships and family. He was proud to carry on the legacy of his father with his son by his side and proud of his six grandchildren and the people they are becoming. He was also proud to call so many of you his friend, go on hunts with you, do business with you, and sit around the breakfast table with you.

Please join us in celebrating Doug’s life on Tuesday, February 8th. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm at Cole & Garrett, Goodlettsville. The service, officiated by Doug’s cousin, Willam (Bill) Hastings Young, will begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will begin at 2:45 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison.

Donations can be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
