Hazel Joyce Strube Obit

To know our dear Joyce was to feel genuinely cared for. She always listened, always engaged, and her kindness knew no bounds.

On June 11th, 2025, Joyce left this world, but her love and the beautiful moments we shared remain.

Born on July 5th, 1953, in Nashville, TN, to Carl and Helen Ballard, she grew up embodying the compassion and generosity that defined her life.

Along with her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her great niece, Audrey Sullivan.

Joyce worked for CNA Insurance after graduating high school from the age of 18 until she left the company in 1984. During her time working there she gained quite a few awards and recognition, including the FLMI degree. For 20 years before retirement, she was employed with Informa Quality Assurance.

She loved being involved in her community and local sports. She held PSL for the Titans and for 35 years she was a scorekeeper for her best friend, Dottie Hale’s Silver Bullets. Due to that her and Dottie became best friends, sister from another mother.

She had a special love for flowers and gardening; her garden was her sanctuary, filled with blooms as vibrant as her spirit. The beach was another of her happy places, especially when shared over a good seafood dinner with family. She also loved the simple things in life like sipping coffee on her porch watching the sunrise.

As family, we shared countless moments of laughter and love with Joyce. Her sisters, Wilma Sullivan and Carol Ballard, will forever cherish those memories. Her nephews, Terry Sullivan Jr. and Stephen Carl Sullivan; great nephews, Blake, Taylor, Jack and Patrick Sullivan; and great-great nieces, Allie and Peyton Sullivan were always touched by her warmth and unwavering support.

Along with Dottie, her friends, Debb Allen, Connie Jennette and Suzanne Key will miss her dearly as well as many other friends and family. Her kindness and compassion will always be carried with us.

Special thank you to the staff at Creekside Center for Rehabilitation and Healing for their compassion and care for Joyce.
