Harold Cole, known as “Bubba” by family and “Shorty” by his friends despite being 6’8¾” passed away peacefully Sunday evening with his daughters by his side.

Harold was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II and the Korean war. He loved his country and was a dedicated army sergeant who trained soldiers on the artillery, cannons, and other heavy machinery used in battle. One officer declared he would follow Harold Cole anywhere he went due to his leadership. After his military tours, he served our city as the chief of Civil Defense, performing water rescues, responding to crises, and administering first aid.

Harold had a love for anything mechanical. In his 20’s he loved racing his Indian and Harley Davidson motorcycles making a small name for himself in town and on the local news. He would later go on to work and retire as a printer from Baird Ward Printing Company.

Harold and his late wife, Edith, loved both classic “Hee-Haw” country music and camping in their RV. Together they explored every state in the U.S. except Alaska and Hawaii. When he and Edith were not traveling, they would spend weeks at Bledsoe Creek TN State Park where they would be recognized for their service in the park.

Harold loved his family and was devoted to his late wife, Edith Mary Cole, who passed in Jan. 2015. He always said, “There’s nothing like family…” and how right he was. His daughters, grandchildren, family, and friends will miss him greatly.
