George Gurney Ledford, age 83, passed away on August 6, 2024.

George was born on November 7, 1940, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He served as a supervisor and track vehicle mechanic in the motor pool of the US Army from 1963-1965, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Previously, George was a skilled auto mechanic, manager at Woolworths, a Baptist pastor and minister, and owner of Marty’s Fried Chicken in Savannah, Georgia, and the surrounding areas.

He enjoyed singing, writing songs and poetry, and playing the guitar. He was known for studying the Bible and his unique ability to memorize scripture. Since moving to Nashville in 1989, he worked as a long-haul truck driver and a security guard, then started his small business focusing on home and office repair and remodeling.

George is survived by his daughter Glenda Le-An Ledford King and her husband, Shaw; son Gregory Wayne Ledford and his wife, Lori; and son Brian Allen Ledford and his wife, Shelly; grandsons Dalton, Christopher, and Landon King; sisters Barbara Jean Ledford Boles and Catherine Elizabeth Ledford Brannon, and her husband, Jack; former wife, Malvi Kanai Ledford; cousins that were as close as siblings, Joyce Ledford Lyttle, and her husband, Jim; and Bill Ledford and his wife, Donna; as well as many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawton DeWitt Ledford, Sr. and Willie Mae Keeble Ledford; brothers Ralph Cecil Ledford and Lawton DeWitt Ledford, Jr.; sister Esther Corine Ledford Furnari; and former wife Martha Jean Ledford Harris.

A funeral service will begin promptly at 9:00 am at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on August 16, 2024. The address is 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN 37221.
