George E. Williams Sr., age 96, died Aug. 15, 2021.
He is survived by children Ed Williams (Connie) of Mt. Juliet and Rebecca Fontaine (Robert) of Hendersonville, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by Erika, his wife of more than 60 years, and by a daughter, Deborah.
George was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Mallard, Iowa, the son of Ora and Nellie Williams.
He was a WWII Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific for 3 ½ years. He was a Purple Heart recipient along with many other wartime citations. After his naval service, he enlisted in the US Army, retiring in 1964.
After leaving the military, he taught at the Nashville Auto-Diesel College where he wrote much of the course curriculum. He later taught for several years in the vocational auto-shop programs at area high schools, retiring in 1992.
George was a born-again believer, having accepted the gift of eternal life from his risen Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Along with Erika, he attended The Donelson Fellowship on McGavock Pike for many years.
He was interred at Woodlawn Funeral Home, joining his beloved Erika. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
