Eugene “Gene” Naifeh, passed away on April 22, 2023, at Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee after a brief illness.
He was born in Brownsville, Tennessee. Mr. Naifeh, age 73, was the son of the late Finde Naifeh, Sr. and Eleanor Coppedge Naifeh.
He was also preceded in death by his oldest brother, Finde Naifeh, Jr.
Gene graduated from Memphis State University (the University of Memphis) with a degree in accounting. He worked full-time for the State of Tennessee in several capacities and in several departments from 1972 until 2016, when he retired from the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration.
After retirement in 2016, he continued to work part-time up until his recent illness, managing the State’s legislative tracking system. Gene loved traveling and had visited all 50 states and over 12 foreign countries. He was an avid golfer, playing golf 180 times in 2022.
His paternal grandparents immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1900’s and Gene was extremely proud of his Lebanese heritage.
Survived by his wife, Peggy O’Steen Naifeh of Nashville, TN; his daughter, Joy Naifeh of Portland, Maine; his son, Mark Naifeh of Nashville, TN; and his brother, Bill Naifeh of Covington, TN.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, Nashville, TN 37211, followed immediately by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Supporting this hospital was Gene’s lifelong passion.
