Elizabeth Cotham King passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born on July 8, 1941, in The Tate Hollow in Perry County, Tennessee, Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard F. Cotham, Sr. and Mahala Smith Cotham. After her marriage, she moved from Linden to Nashville, beginning a life defined by hard work, devotion, and love for her family. She made her home in the Old Hickory, Goodlettsville, and Mt. Juliet “fertile crescent.”
Elizabeth began her working career as a keypunch operator at the Methodist Publishing House in downtown Nashville. In 1973, she was hired at the DuPont plant in Old Hickory, Tennessee, where she worked faithfully through many corporate transitions until her retirement—a testament to her dedication and strong work ethic.
Elizabeth shared a devoted marriage of 54 years with her husband, George Brown King, a talented carpenter who ultimately worked as a general contractor. Their partnership was marked by enduring love, hard work, and shared commitment to family.
She will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. She shared a special bond with her grandson, Mason Rolman, as well as with her nieces and nephews, always offering warmth, encouragement, and a welcoming presence.
Elizabeth found great joy and fellowship through softball. She and her sister, Shirley, were mainstays on the Old Hickory United Methodist Church women’s softball team, helping lead the team to several league championships while hitting many over-the-fence home runs. One of their most memorable and unusual games took place at the Tennessee women’s prison, where they were invited to play against one of the resident teams—an experience they always remembered.
Her presence brought comfort and happiness to family gatherings and everyday moments alike.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard F. Cotham, Sr. and Mahala Smith Cotham; her husband, George Brown King; her daughter, Kimberly King Rolman; and her siblings, Joe, Shirley, and Richard Cotham, Jr.
She is survived by her brother, Larry (B.J.) Cotham of Greenbrier; her sister-in-law Shelby Cotham of Linden; her son-in-law, Michael Rolman; her grandson Mason Rolman; and her nieces, nephews, and extended family who will cherish her memory.
