Dylan Marc North Ruff, 24, of Nashville, TN, passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2023 with his family by his side at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is finally at peace.
Dylan was born on February 28, 1999, in Kankakee, IL, and was adopted at birth. Dylan lived in Lisle, IL, until he was 21 years old. After Dylan graduated from Naperville North High School in 2017, he went on to take courses in film production at College of DuPage.
In 2019 he completed a certification program at the Nashville Film Institute, specializing in video editing. Dylan was extremely creative and video editing was just one of his many passions. Dylan loved music, especially rap and metal, and made sure that the Spotify playlist in the car was always tuned to his favorite songs with the volume turned all the way up. Dylan wrote and released more than 30 songs, mostly electronic or rap genres. His real talent was for writing lyrics that allowed you to see into his soul.
There is no way to describe Dylan other than as a force of nature. He truly touched the hearts of all who met him. He had an uncanny way of immediately charming people. It’s as if he had a magic spell that drew people in. He loved others intensely, and always had their backs. He loved laughing loudly. He was creative, smart, hilarious, handsome, annoying, incredibly empathetic, and an absolutely amazing son/brother/nephew/cousin/friend/online gamer. Someone recently described him as a sweet, kind, funny, smart, sensitive boy.
Dylan is survived by his parents, Cheryl Beck-Ruff and Jonathan Ruff, his sister, Isabel (Izzy) Ruff who is 33 days his senior, his granddad, Eric Ruff, countless aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of The Pond, his birth family, many friends, and of course his dog, Ruffles Ruff.
The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made in Dylan’s name to one of the following charities:

A Gathering of Family and Friends for Dylan will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 3:45 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, followed by a Celebration of Life from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
A memorial service will be held in Naperville, IL in the weeks to come.
