Dwight “Big Daddy” Sesler, age 73, passed away on December 23, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, where he spent his life building, serving, and loving those around him.
Dwight was the definition of a provider, a craftsman and a servant’s heart. Known affectionately as “Big Daddy,” he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him through his generosity, humor and unwavering willingness to help.
Dwight was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Hogan Gussmann; his father, Raymond Hogan; his bonus father, Hans Gussmann; and his siblings, John J. Sesler and Peggy Ann Roberson.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Faye Sesler; his daughter, Christy Walker (Jason); his son, Ray Sesler (Amanda); and his sister, Reba Huffines (Mike). He was a proud grandfather to Brooke Marksberry (Hensley), Austin Sesler (Blake), Baylee Profitt (James), Keeley Walker, and Brendan Sesler, and a cherished great-grandfather to Ezra Sesler, Isla Profitt, and Joey Marksberry.
Dwight began his construction career in 1984 and continued building quality custom homes through Big Daddy Construction until his retirement in 2020. His work can be found throughout Middle Tennessee, a lasting testament to his skill, pride, and dedication. He truly could do anything with wood—able to make something out of nothing—and his woodworking talent was admired by all who saw his creations.
A man of deep faith, Dwight was a longtime member of Goodlettsville Church of Christ before transferring to Northside Church of Christ. He was active in church ministries, including room-in-the-inn, church remodeling and additions, handyman services, and serving on the security team. Dwight also joyfully handed out Werther’s Original candy to everyone—especially the kids—earning himself the beloved title of “the candy man.” If anyone ever needed help, Dwight was always ready to serve. Dwight was truly a servant.
In 1997, Dwight began his Masonic journey under the guidance of Hans Gussmann at Goodlettsville Lodge #9 and later became a plural member of Hendersonville Masonic Lodge #359. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite and Shriner, serving on all teams during his tenure.
Dwight’s early years were spent at the Goodlettsville Saddle Club, where he enjoyed barrel racing. Later, he found great joy in fishing and hunting. Family always knew when Papa had killed a deer—because homemade jerky was sure to follow. He was self-taught in music, playing both guitar and harmonica and he loved rock and roll and a good western film.
Traveling was a true passion for Dwight. He experienced Russia, England, Egypt, and Israel, and if anyone ever mentioned a place they wanted to visit, his response was always, “Let’s go!”
A devoted Tennessee Titans fan, Dwight supported the team from the beginning in 1997 and traveled to watch them play whenever he could. Despite health challenges, Dwight was able to attend his final game on October 19, 2025, sharing the experience with his son—an especially meaningful memory.
Dwight treasured his routines and the time he spent with family, church, and friends. He loved woodworking, taking afternoon naps, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. He also found great joy in knowing that his granddaughter, Baylee, was expecting twins—the first set of great-grandbaby twins he was so excited to welcome.
Dwight “Big Daddy” Sesler leaves behind a legacy of faith, craftsmanship, laughter, service, and love. His hands built homes, his heart built people, and his life was a gift to everyone blessed enough to know him.
Pallbearers will be Ray Sesler, Jason Walker, Ricky Searcy, Mike Huffines, Austin Sesler, and Brendan Sesler.
