Dr. Charlie Joe Hobdy, age 96, of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2022, at home with family, including Henrietta, his wife of 74 years.
Dr. Hobdy was born in Nashville, TN on December 30th, 1925, son of Charles Russell Hobdy & Geraldine Donoho Hobdy and grew up in Portland, TN.
Dr. Hobdy is survived by his wife, Henrietta Bryant Hobdy of Nashville, TN; daughters, Joetta Hobdy Wallace of Nashville, TN, Jerrilyn Hobdy (Larry Gershel) of Cape May Point, NJ, Juliann Hobdy (Alex Weiss) of Arlington, TX, & Janelle Hobdy Priest (Neal Priest) of Fairfield Glades, TN; nephew, Ted Bryant of Corbin, KY; grandchildren, Adam (Miriam) Weiss, Emma Weiss (Saagar Patel), Marlee (Zach) Burke, Reed Priest; great-grandchildren, Braxton Burke, Micah Burke, Judah Burke, Rebecca Weiss, & Benjamin Weiss.
Dr. Hobdy was a triple ‘dore – graduating from Vanderbilt with a Bachelor of Arts in 1949, Master of Arts in Microbiology in 1950 & Medical Doctorate in 1955.
He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Islands. Dr. Hobdy delivered many Middle Tennessee babies in his over 30-year career as an OB-GYN. He was active and served on the Vestry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Franklin, TN. In retirement, he pursued his artistic talents in stained glass and oil painting.
Graveside services will be held for Dr. Hobdy at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 20th, 2022, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Portland, TN with Allston Vander Horst officiating. Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home, Portland, TN will be coordinating arrangements.
