Mr. Donnie Smith age 59 of the Defeated Creek Community was discovered unresponsive at his Lakeside Drive home on Friday afternoon. Donnie was pronounced deceased at 4:40 p.m. September 6, 2024 at the Highpoint Health – Riverview Emergency Room.
His former pastor Bro. Tim Miles assisted by Bro. Tim Frank will officiate at the Thursday afternoon September 12th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Musical presence will be presented by Bro. Jim Wilburn. Burial following the 1 p.m. services will be in the Smith family plot in the Garden of the Cross at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.
The Smith family will receive friends only on Thursday September 12th from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. services at Sanderson in Carthage.
Born Donald Forest Smith in Dayton in Montgomery County, Ohio on March 21, 1965, he was one of two daughters and three sons of the late Jack Lynnwood Smith who died at the age of 68 on March 21, 1999 and Norma Jean Pearson Smith who died at the age of 69 on December 8, 2003.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bennett Kevin (Ben) Smith who died as the result of a single vehicle automobile accident on Defeated Creek Highway on May 1, 1982 at the age of 21. Also preceding him in death was his sister-in-law, Kimberly (Kim) White Smith who died November 21, 2004 at the age of 39.
Mr. Smith was a member of the 1984 graduating class at Smith County High School.
He was saved at the age of 9 and was baptized at the Lewisburg Baptist Church in Lewisburg, Ohio. After moving with his family to Smith County he placed his membership at the Peyton Creek Baptist Church where he remained a member.
Surviving are his two sisters, Rita Shiverdecker and husband David of the Buffalo Community, Marcia Hunt and husband Roger of New Madison, Ohio; brother, Doug Smith of the Defeated Creek Community.
The Smith family has requested memorials to the Peyton Creek Baptist Church.
