David Patrick McClanahan, 62, leaving us much too early, left his earthly home for his heavenly home August 3, 2026. Born January 4, 1964, in Nashville, Tennessee, David was raised in the Madison area and remained closely tied to the place that shaped him. He was, in every sense, a cherished presence—someone whose gentle spirit and kind-hearted way of moving through the world made people feel at ease in his company.

From an early age, David’s faith anchored his life. He became a Christian and was baptized young, and he was a member of the Baptist church. He always carried and read his Bible, a steady, personal practice that reflected the quiet sincerity of his beliefs and the comfort he found in them.

In spite of his disability, David worked several jobs over the years, including a position at Zaxby’s. He met each day with a steady determination and a warmth that could not be missed. Beloved by many, he had a gift for bringing joy and humor into the lives of those around him—often with a simple comment, an easy laugh, or the kind of friendly conversation that made strangers feel like neighbors. He truly never met a stranger and could talk to anyone, leaving behind countless small moments of connection that now feel especially precious.

David was preceded in death by his father, Hassle McClanahan; his mother, Bette Key McClanahan; and his brother, James McClanahan. He is survived by his sister, Becky Robnett; special caregivers/extended family, Angelia Blakeley, Janet Felton, and Tremayne Banks; and special friend, Carolyn Smith. David also leaves behind many other extended family members and friends.

There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends at Hermitage Funeral Home on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A second Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at Hermitage Funeral Home on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. A Celebration of David’s Life will follow 1:00 pm in the Tulip Grove Chapel at the funeral home. Following the service, David will be laid to rest next to his parents in the Garden of the Apostles at Heritage Memorial Gardens.
