Darryl Lamont Harris was born June 30, 1961 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee; the third child of the late Thomas Howard Harris and only son of Gwendolyn Armstrong Harris Wilson. God lovingly called him home on Sunday, May 22, 2022.
Darryl was baptized at an early age and attended Salem AME Church. He attended public schools in Nashville, playing high school sports. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1977 and attended Nashville State Community College.
Darryl married Marilyn Hudgens in 1992. To this union, two children were born – Tiffany Ann and Darryl L. Harris, Jr.
Darryl began his work experience with the Nashville Tennessean Newspaper Company when he was 14 years old. He worked there for over 20 years. He later moved to Detroit, Michigan to be closer to his father. He found employment in the auto industry where he worked for over 20 years. After the passing of his father in 2011, Darryl later moved back to Nashville.
Darryl was a fun-loving person who cared deeply for his family. He was deeply proud of the accomplishments of his children and loved to talk about them to others. He enjoyed watching college sports, NBA/NFL games, playing pool, and grilling. He will be lovingly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his mother Gwendolyn Wilson, Marilyn Harris (d.), children Tiffany and Darryl Harris, Jr., siblings Brenda (Greg) Walker, Los Angeles, CA; Ann (David) Jackson, Nashville, TN, Rhonda (James) McCray, Owings Mills, MD, Thomas W.M. Harris, Detroit, MI, Brendan Harris, Denver, CO, adopted sister Beverly (James) Lockridge, Nashville, TN. Grandchildren Harmony and Mark Manier, III. Nephews Jeremy London, Brian (Celisse) McCray, Niece Camille (Brandon) Tyson; Great nephews JaSean London, Brian McCray, Jr., Royal McCray, and Cairo Tyson. Special friends, James Lockridge, Billy Bush, James T. “Wash” Washington, and a host of other relatives and friends.
