Charles Relies Haley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023.

He was born on October 22, 1937, in Haleyville, Alabama, to his loving parents, Joe and Lillie Haley.

Charles lived a fulfilling and meaningful life surrounded by his family and friends. He touched the hearts of those who knew him with his kind soul, warm smile, and unwavering love for his family.

Charles married Helen Witherow on December 29, 1956 and they have spent the past 66 years building a beautiful life together. They spent many years camping and traveling around the United States, but always had a special connection to Center Hill Lake and they passed that experience on to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charles also enjoyed many fall hunting trips to south Alabama that were as much about spending time with family as they were about hunting.

A dedicated father, Charles was extremely proud of his two sons, Chuck (Kim) Haley and Joe Haley. He instilled in them strong values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family. Charles’s love for his children knew no bounds; he supported them unconditionally throughout their lives.

As a grandfather to Joe (Kelli), Chad and Tara (Brian), Charles aka Papa cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. He delighted in watching them grow into remarkable individuals and shared countless joyous memories with them over the years. He took great pride in ensuring they each learned how to fish and had a love of everything in nature.

Charles also had the incredible joy of being a great-grandfather to Marissa, Braxton, Vanna, Lillian, Tristin, Caden, Briara, and Leah. One of the joys he shared with the great-grands was feeding the ducks at the park.

In addition, Charles had the privilege of experiencing the joy of being a great-great-grandfather to Logan.

Charles is also survived by his brothers, Watson and Neal and sister, Nettie Rose and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lillie and brothers, Simmit and Warren.
