Brian Nelson Gaskins, 68, of Nashville passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 17, 2024.
Brian was born in Memphis, TN to Thomas L. and Loretta Gaskins on May 6, 1955. Soon after, the family moved to and planted roots in Inglewood, where he made many lifelong friends.
He graduated from Stratford High School, class of 1973. Brian then attended college at MTSU, where he met his wife, Sandy. Brian and Sandy had just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on March 11th.
Brian was a business owner whose focus was always customer service. His success was primarily due to his friendly demeanor and customer-first attitude. Brian was an avid sports enthusiast and athlete. In his youth, he was extremely passionate about baseball, basketball, fast-pitch softball, and golf. He spent several years as a member of the Capitol City Golf Association, and in later years spent many days at the tee with the Bogie Boyz of Two Rivers Golf Course. Anyone who knew him also knew he was always ready to cheer on his ‘Dores.
Brian was a fisherman, boat enthusiast, and an avid gardener, setting up an annual community garden where he would sell and give away tomatoes. Later in life, some of his happiest times were meeting and greeting his Maplecrest neighbors in Donelson. Above all, Brian was a family man. He loved them very much and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Leroy Gaskins and Billie Loretta Gaskins.
Brian is survived by his wife, Sandra Shearin Gaskins; Daughters, Brandi Jirka (Leo) and Lori Gaskins; Grandchildren, Brian Leojon Jirka and Julia Billie Jirka; Siblings, Sharon Elrod and Thomas Gaskins (Rita); Beloved grand-dog, Zodie; And many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home on Gallatin Rd on March 30th. The visitation will be held from 11 am-3 pm. Friends and family who wish to publicly share their memories with Brian are welcome to do so starting at 2 pm. https://www.phillipsrobinson.com
