Billy L. Akin Obit

Billy L. Akin, 91, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 21, 2024. He was born on September 25, 1933, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Charles Fred Akin and Pauline Estelle Head Akin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley King Akin; children, David (Kelly) Akin and Dawn (Gary) Whittaker; grandchildren, Drew (Caitlin) Akin, Drake Akin, Demi (Reed) Keener, and Derek (fiancé Racheal) Akin; great-grandchild, Brooks Keener; and sister, Jean Akin.

Billy was a devoted Christian and lived his life with one goal and that was a Heavenly home. He was an active member of Kemper Heights Church of Christ. He was active in church leadership for many years and shared his deep knowledge of Scripture. He was a loving and devoted husband to Shirley. He loved his children and family dearly. He always took the time to laugh and pull practical jokes whenever he could. He had a long career as an executive in the insurance industry and was highly respected by his peers. He had a love for God’s creation and enjoyed hiking, photography, and traveling. He organized many memorable hikes up Mt. LeConte for family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a visitation Friday, December 27, 2024, at Spring Hill Funeral Home from 4pm until 8pm. There will also be visitation Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 10am until the time of service at 12pm. The funeral ceremony will be conducted in the Spring Hill Chapel. Burial will follow immediately after at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
