Billie Ruth Durham Gossage “Nanny”, of Nashville, TN, passed on April 1, 2024, at the age of 90.
She was born on November 13, 1933, to the late Olcie Lorene and Robert Levi Durham.
Nanny enjoyed watching sports and mostly spending time with her family. She was a long-time member of Park Avenue Baptist Church and a devout Christian and prayer warrior. She attended Martin Methodist College where she was earned the distinction of Women’s Sports Hall of Fame in Basketball.
In addition to her parents, Nanny was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 60 years, Charles Edward Gossage, Sr.; and 10 of her siblings.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Lesa (Jerry) Cart and Charles E. “Chuck” (Kim) Gossage; grandchildren, Kari (Shelby) Mayer, Kaci (Tyler) Buchholz, Matt (Linda) Cart, Kati Cart, and Kali (A.J.) Thompson; Kevin (Katie) Gossage, Jeffrey (Amy) Gossage, Steven Gossage, and Sarah (Joel) Gilchrist; great-grandchildren, Noah and Cooper Mayer, Benny Francis Kearney, Scout Louise and Milo Buchholz, Harry Cart, Doc Thompson, Penn, and Ames Gossage, Charlie Gossage, Naomi, Allison “Sunnie”, and Camilla Ruth Gilchrist; sister, Barbara Ann Brown; sister-in-law, Sarah Jane Durham; and special friends and neighbors, Patricia and Wayne Marlin, Sarah Strawbridge, Don Carpenter, Gaby and Bubba Burris, Robbin Elizer, and Betty Veach.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. A Celebration of Billie’s Life will begin at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at West Harpeth. Following the service, Nanny will be laid to rest by her husband in Woodlawn Memorial Park. https://www.westharpethfh.com
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Juvenile Diabetes Association, the American Lung Association, or the American Heart Association in Billie’s name.
