Betty Jo “BJ” Morrell Burke, age 89 of Nashville, TN, born Feb 3, 1933, born into Christ on July 18, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by her family, following hospitalization and illness.
Preceded in death by her father, Julius Jones Morrell and mother, Christine Easley Morrell Turner; her 2 brothers, Tommy Morrell and Danny Morrell; and one sister, Angelia Morrell Solomon.
Survived by her dedicated husband of 71 years, Paul Warner Burke (Dir. of Opryland USA for 27years); and two loving children, Thomas Michael “Mike” Burke (Bridgestone), his wife, Fay Burke (Nashville Used Music) and Christie Burke Falcon (St. Thomas West); her grandson, Christopher Paul Falcon; her two step-grandsons, Tommy Vick and Brian Hardiman; as well as a step great-granddaughter, Madison Vick; and sister, Jeanene Morrell Mackie.
She was employed at the Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory. She volunteered for many charities, including Knowles Center Meals on Wheels, 30 years with the Ladies of Charity, and served as a past President of the Saint Thomas Ladies Auxiliary, volunteering at St. Thomas Hospital for 12 years.
She was a Charter Member of St. Edward Catholic Church.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the Rosary being led by the Ladies of Charity from 5 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
Funeral mass will be Friday, July 22, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 188 Thompson Lane, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by burial at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to the Ladies of Charity, and due to the amazing care at their home, the family requested donations be made to Alive Hospice.
