Betty Jane Angel Garrett, age 85, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023.

Betty was born on November 2, 1937, in Nashville, TN to the late Robert Oakley Angel and Carrie Mae Angel.

She graduated from Hume-Fogg High School and was the runner up to the Salutatorian. Betty married Fred Garrett right after high school and was a devoted wife for 65 years. She was also a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.· She loved her family and was always the one to jump in to take care of her family members when needed.

Betty began working right out of high school in the secretarial field for many years and later became a Medical Transcriptionist and worked for several doctors’ groups at Southern Hills Hospital and later at St. Thomas West.

She was a faithful Christian and a member of Crieve Hall Church of Christ and also attended Tyree Chapel Church of Christ in her last months, while staying at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Teresa Garrett, who took wonderful care of her.

Betty was an excellent cook and always made everything ·from scratch.··She enjoyed gardening, being a homemaker;·and organizing everything. She was a perfectionist. She also loved sightseeing arid traveled around the U.S. to many places including the Grand Canyon.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Carpenter (David); her son, Mark Garrett (Teresa); grandchildren, Michelle Gares (Calen) and David Carpenter, Ill; great-grandchildren, Keegan and Ellie Gares; and her brother, Jerry Angel (Darlene).

Betty was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Fred Garrett; her parents, Robert and Carrie Mae Angel; her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Armstrong, Judy Jones and Carol Kuffrey; her brothers, Robert “Bud” Angel, Jr. and William “Billy” Angel.

Visitation will be at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, Nashville, TN 37211, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Bill Watkins.
