Bessie Mae Mitchell passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 87.
She was born October 14, 1936, to Hardin and Clara Blankenship in Sessums, Mississippi.
She was of the Christian faith and a long-time member of Blakemore United Methodist Church. Bessie enjoyed a long career in banking and was an active member of the Blakemore UMC community, supporting many functions with her famous banana pudding.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, James Nash Mitchell, her parents, Hardin and Clara Blankenship, and sisters, Mary Ann Graham and Betty Jean Williams.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Beth Mitchell Smathers (Ray) and Linda Mitchell Murphy (Terry), grandchildren Lauren Smathers Hodges (Bryce), Lee Mitchell Smathers (Amber), and Thomas Nash Murphy, and great-grandchildren, Brennan Elizabeth Hodges, and James Bryce Hodges.
Services will be held at West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209, starting at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Visitation will start at 11:00 am before the service. https://www.westharpethfh.com
