Bernard Frank “Butch” Belcher passed away on December 8, 2024, in Hermitage, Tennessee, following a long illness. Born on August 26, 1942, to Bernard and Gladys (LaMountain) Belcher, he was 82.
Bernie spent his early years in Southwick, Massachusetts, and lived in Westfield for much of his adult life. In his later years, he called Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, home before spending his last days in Tennessee. A veteran, he served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged in 1964. He spent most of his career with Westfield Electroplating Company, and retired from Fountain Plating in West Springfield.
In addition to his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his brother, Charles, and his sisters: Frances Freeman, Judith Sarnelli, Jeanne Champigny, and Shirley Jewell. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Margaret; his five children: Katherine and Glenn White of South Dennis, MA; Bernard and Angela Belcher of West Hartford, CT; Karen and Jeffrey Plante of Surprise, AZ; Kerry and Scott Little of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Meghan and Gary Elmore of Hermitage, TN; and three beloved grandchildren: Gavin Belcher, Kaleigh Little, and Emily Little. He also leaves behind siblings: Eva Belcher, Barry Belcher, Donna Lofgren, and Mark Belcher; as well as step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his neighbor and friend Frank Davis.
An avid New York Giants fan with a love of westerns and his grandpets, Bernie was admired for his quiet and gentle nature. Truly one of a kind, he will be deeply missed.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to your local hospice organization in his honor.
