It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alvin Morris Filson, also known as “Morris”,who left us on November 19, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born on October 5, 1937, to James and Christine Filson in Nashville, Tennessee, Alvin was a devoted husband, father, and friend who touched the lives of many.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents, James and Christine; his siblings, James “Bubba” Filson Jr., William “Bill” Filson, Jerry Filson, David Filson, Peggy Anderson, and Mary Ann Overby.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63+ years, Heather Filson; his sister Barbara June Humphreys; his children, Sandra Filson Hunt, Alvin Morris Filson Jr. (Marquita), Robert Timothy Filson (Becky); his grandchildren, Hannah Ivy Filson, Timothy Jacob Filson, Tiffani Dawn Moody (Tramont), Desiree Lauren Masencup, Britany Filson Curtis (Peter), Katelyn Filson Mahler (David), Cody Austin Filson (Emily), Micah Dillon Filson, Austin Davis (Carley); his great-grandchildren, Adelynn Jean Curtis, Hazel Jayne Mahler, Iver Rosalie Mahler, Clementine Louella Mahler, August Ames Filson, and Saint Xavier Watkins.
Morris’s work ethic was unparalleled; he dedicated many years of his life as a truck driver, serving on dedicated runs. His commitment to service extended beyond the road; he proudly served his country as a medic in the U.S. Army, where he displayed his deep sense of duty and compassion for others.
A true Christian man, Morris found joy in his faith and used it as a guiding light throughout his life. Additionally, he had an undeniable passion for building and working with heavy and farm equipment, showcasing his talent for creating and fixing things.
Morris was also well-known for his craftsmanship in the kitchen, particularly his famous cornbread and banana nut bread, which were beloved by his family and friends alike. Family was everything to Morris; he cherished every moment spent with them, and they were often the center of his universe. His warm, contagious smile could brighten even the darkest of days, and he had the unique ability to light up every room he entered. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a passion for life that will forever resonate with those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. In our hearts, Morris will always be remembered as a great man whose spirit will live on in the memories we hold dear.
Services for Morris will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Bethel Church of the Nazarene at 455 Broadmoor Dr, Nashville, TN 37216 with visitation from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Then, on Monday, November 25, 2024 visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with the funeral service to begin at 1:00 PM. All services for Morris will be held at the church. A graveside service will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.
