On July 3rd, 2025, our world became a little less vibrant as we said goodbye to “Big Al”, Alan Bryan Sutton. Born on December 22nd, 1948, in Atlanta, GA, Alan filled every room with laughter, music, and love. He was a loving, sweet, fun, and generous man who cherished his family above all else.

He was a rural mail carrier for United States Postal Service for 25 years. Alan’s passion for music and dancing was infectious; he could often be found moving to his favorite tunes, bringing joy to everyone around him. A big trivia and movie buff, his wealth of knowledge and love for films made for countless memorable family nights and spirited conversations even with his created trivia questions.

Alan’s heart belonged to his beloved wife of 45 years, Ellen Sutton, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. He was a proud father to Michael Hull, Chris Sutton, Corey Sutton, Kelli Venaas, Tracy Pace, and Mandy Allan. His children were his greatest treasures, and he relished every moment spent with them. He was a loving grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was the cherished son of Marion E. Sutton and Mary E. Sutton, and brother to Richard Sterling Sutton, who all preceded him in passing. Their memories lived on through Alan’s stories and the hearty laughter he shared.

Intelligent and full of life, Alan was the kind of person who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His generous spirit and fun-loving nature made the world brighter for those fortunate enough to know him.

Though he is no longer with us, Alan’s love and the joyful memories he created continue to inspire and uplift his family and friends. We celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the happiness he brought into our lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in honor of Alan to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital: https://www.stjude.org/donate.
