The latest forecast has Middle Tennessee below freezing until Thursday afternoon. While it’s cold now, temperatures are predicted to plummet into single digits over the next couple days. HVAC systems are working overtime to heat your home which increases your electricity usage.

To help lower your upcoming power bill, here are some tips you can use immediately.

❄️ Set your thermostat below 70 degrees. The lower you go, the less electricity you use. Be careful with emergency or auxiliary heat. Those settings can dramatically increase your power bill.
❄️ Close your garage door. Helps keep the cold out of the house.
❄️ Open curtains and blinds on the sunny side of the house. Keep closed on shaded sides.
❄️ Bundle up with extra clothes and blankets. Throw on a second pair of socks and layer on another sweater.
❄️ Switch your ceiling fan directional setting to clockwise. This pulls heat down into the room.

Due to the sustained frigid temperatures in the area, NES will not disconnect power for nonpayment through Wednesday, 1/17.
