The Nashville Fire Department added a new Medic Unit to respond to medical runs in Metro Nashville Davidson County.

Medic 26 is a new Advanced Life Support ambulance and brings the total number of full-time ambulances to 31. The ambulance will provide 24/7 emergency medical service.

Medic 26’s territory is going to be primarily South Nashville and the Antioch area. This new ambulance in the area will help prevent ambulances stationed in other territories from having to respond into this area as often. This is expected to help reduce response times and run volumes for all medic units.

Even though Medic 26 will be assigned primarily in South Nashville and Antioch it is available to respond city wide as needed.

“We are constantly assessing our call volume and the unit hour utilization of our ambulances,” Director Chief William Swann said. “We have requested additional personnel to staff more ambulances and are hopeful in the future we can add more medic units to our fleet to service our growing community.

The Nashville Fire Department is one of the busiest emergency medical service providers in the country.

In 2022, NFD Personnel made more than 254,550 medical responses. It was an 8 percent increase when compared to 2021. (235,250)

NFD’s EMS division made 81,990 EMS Transports in 2022. That was a 4 percent increase when compared to 2021. (78,680)
