Proactive policing to combat car burglaries in hotel/motel parking lots in the Hermitage Precinct paid dividends overnight with the apprehension of two thieves who tried to flee from officers in a stolen car.

At 3:20 a.m. June 13, Officer Sean McConnell spotted two persons with flashlights involved in vehicle break-ins in the parking lot of the Sonesta Hotel on Marriott Drive. The two saw Officer McConnell’s police car and immediately ran to a stolen 2017 Honda Civic.

Officer McConnell tried to stop the Honda. The driver, Yanathan Furline, 20, refused to pull over. Officer McConnell pursued the Honda for about 15 minutes from the Hermitage area into North Nashville at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The car ultimately crashed into a residential fence at 12th Avenue North and Cockrill Street.

The two suspects ran through yards, with Furline tossing a pistol, before officers caught up with them.

Furline is now jailed in lieu of $147,500 bond on a variety of charges including vehicle burglary, vehicle theft, felony vandalism, possession of burglary tools, felony evading, and reckless driving.

His passenger, Lamario Kelly, 19, is jailed in lieu of $42,000 bond on charges of vehicle burglary, vehicle theft, evading, possession of burglary tools and vandalism.
