Music City Executive Airport will dedicate the newly completed Mid Field Apron expansion March 29th at 10:00 AM. In addition to many state and local officials, the public is highly encouraged to come out and participate in this ceremony.

Music City Executive Airport (MCEA) has experienced a tremendous amount of growth over the last several years. No longer is the airport a grass runway serving only general aviation. Today MCEA is a thriving airport serving corporate and general aviation from around the United States.

Over the last six years the statistics yearly operations have grown over 700%. In addition to the growth, the airport was awarded and executed over $7 million in grants for modernization and safety upgrades. The airport received $3.9 million in direct appropriations from the State of Tennessee for new terminal designs and to fund the new Mid-Field Apron. The new apron will facilitate up to nine new corporate hangars. The construction of these hangars will bring in millions of dollars in private investment to the county. However, the most significant outcome of this expansion is the airport’s continued self-sustainability. Through revenue generated from land leases and fuel flowage fees, the airport has the potential to realize an increase of over $200,000 to its revenue.

The Airport also received a $10 million allocation from the State of Tennessee for the construction of a new terminal and more airport modernization to keep up with the growing demand that Music City Executive is currently experiencing.

The Airport has also added value to the surrounding areas. A 2019 economic impact study found the airport’s economic impact showed an added value of $13.4 million to the community as well as $22.9 million in overall business revenue. As the airport continues its upward trajectory, it is forecasted that these numbers will continue to go up, providing more value added to the area for years to come.

The next phases of expansion at the airport will see a new terminal building, added ramp space for aircraft parking, a new fuel facility, security/wildlife fencing and expansion to the east side of the airport to accommodate more corporate and t-hangars to help support the vibrant general aviation community at the airport.

Another significant note, the airport is a part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). This program designed by the FAA, identifies airports and puts them in certain classifications to determine eligible federal funding in the Airport Improvement Plan (AIP), as well as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). The Music City Executive Airport was just reclassified as a non-primary National Airport, previously a Regional Airport. This makes Music City Executive Airport 1 of 3 in the state of Tennessee, 1 of 122 in the nation which is 5% of all general aviation airports in the country. Based off this reclassification, the airport will receive an additional $2.5 million dollars in the next 3 fiscal years to use as part of its Airport Improvement Plan.

All of this couldn’t have been done without the leadership of the Airport Board, having a vision to bring the airport to the future and to not only better serve the community and region, but by those who use it throughout the country.
