December 8, 2022 – Chief John Drake today announced the selection of MNPD veteran scientist and Crime Laboratory Director Amanda Sweet as Director of the department’s Forensic Services Division, which encompasses the lab, crime scene investigation, and the tenprint fingerprint component.

Sweet joined the MNPD in September 2013 as Toxicology Supervisor when the lab, on Myatt Drive in Madison, was in its final stages of completion. She was promoted to Crime Laboratory Assistant Director in 2019 and then Director one year ago.

“Amanda was a key staff member in helping open our Crime Laboratory in 2014 and has ensured that it continues to meet important accreditation standards,” Chief John Drake said. “She has the proven scientific expertise, personality and management skills to lead our Forensic Services Division well into the future.”

Sweet holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Science with a Chemistry Emphasis from Eastern Kentucky University, and a Master’s Degree in Drug Chemistry from the University of Florida.

The MNPD’s Crime Laboratory is the only certified, accredited facility of its kind in Tennessee outside of labs operated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
