The Metro Nashville Police Department is mourning the loss of West Precinct Lieutenant Matt Pylkas, a longtime officer and supervisor who served the department for more than three decades.
According to the West Precinct, Lieutenant Pylkas died Thursday morning, May 7, at his Nashville home following a medical emergency. He was a 31-year veteran of the police department.
Officials said Pylkas spent 25 years serving in supervisory roles after being promoted to sergeant in 2001 and later to lieutenant in 2004. The department described him as a leader who served with strength, professionalism, and compassion throughout his career, earning the respect of fellow officers and members of the community.
“Your watch has ended, but your impact will live on forever,” the precinct said in a statement honoring his service.
Police are asking the public to keep Lieutenant Pylkas’ family, the West Precinct A-Detail, and those who served alongside him in their thoughts during this difficult time.
