February 6, 2025 – The Canadian Neo-Nazi protestor who was free on bond stemming from his arrest last July 14 on a felony aggravated assault charge for using a flagpole to strike a downtown bartender has now been rearrested on a new Davidson County Grand Jury indictment charging him with civil rights intimidation and assault.
Ryan Scott McCann, 29, of Ontario, who has been identified as part of the Goyim Defense League (GDL) antisemitic hate group, had been on an ankle monitor and was prohibited from leaving Davidson County under the conditions of his bond. Specialized Investigations Division (SID) detectives took him into custody Wednesday downtown where he was working as a painter.
The new indictment is the result of an SID investigation into his actions late at night on July 13th at a 10th Avenue South parking lot. Detectives became aware of an unreported altercation between McCann and a 20-year-old Clarksville man who is of Jewish descent. Follow up work led to the identification of the 20-year-old, who was standing outside a vehicle in the parking lot that was also occupied by the GDL group. The investigation shows that he was antagonized and taunted by members of GDL. During the altercation, McCann took off his fanny pack and claimed not to know how to fight. While the 20-year-old was standing in front of him, McCann attempted a spinning elbow strike toward the victim’s neck/head. The 20-year-old tried to get away, resulting in McCann kicking him at least two separate times.
A Criminal Court Judge set an additional $50,000 bond on the indictment. McCann remains jailed.
