A man has been arrested in an auto theft case.
On Friday, August 11, Jackie Cross III, 30, was arrested after being wanted on seven outstanding warrants, including auto theft and evading arrest.
Detectives received information that Cross was working on a vehicle in the 3600 block of Echo Lane. When they pulled into the driveway, Cross fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody. Cross had driven a stolen Nissan Frontier pickup truck to the location. The truck had been taken from a Charlotte Pike convenience store last month after it had been left unoccupied and running with the keys in the ignition. After a review of surveillance video, Cross was identified as the suspect. On Friday, detectives recovered .95 grams of meth, burglary tools, and drug paraphernalia from the pickup truck.
Two days after the Nissan truck was stolen, an officer spotted the vehicle traveling on Charlotte Pike and attempted to stop the driver, Cross, but he drove off at a high rate of speed and eluded capture.
In addition to auto theft and evading arrest, Cross is charged with reckless driving, meth possession, and driving on a revoked license. Cross remains under investigation for additional criminal activity, primarily in the West Nashville area. He remains jailed on $42,000 bond.
In May of this year, Cross was sentenced to a six year probated sentence for felony auto theft. In that case, Cross is alleged to have stolen a Dodge Dakota pickup truck that had been left with the keys outside a Kentucky Avenue convenience store.
MNPD reminds motorists that too many automobiles remain easy targets because keys are left inside or made available to thieves.
