November 28, 2022 – Quick Response by East Precinct officers and investigation by Violent Crimes Division detectives led to the arrest of robbery suspect Montez Tate, 20, who is charged with three separate hold-ups that occurred this morning, one on Hillside Drive and two on Banjo Street.

The first robbery occurred at a construction site on Hillside Drive. Two workers were approached by a gunman just after 8 a.m. and one, who had just been paid, gave the suspect several hundred dollars cash. Approximately 20 minutes later, the gunman approached a woman outside her Banjo Street residence. He demanded money at gunpoint and when she told him she did not have any, he forced his way into her residence. Another family member inside retrieved money and gave it to the suspect who fled. The robber then approached another woman on Banjo Street and took $25 from her purse at gunpoint.

East Precinct officers responded to all three robberies. Witnesses provided a good suspect description and officers soon located Tate hiding behind a minivan. He fled on foot, dropping a semi-automatic pistol as he ran. Tate was quickly apprehended. The gun he dropped had been reported stolen in September from a car parked outside a Dover Glen Drive residence. The pistol had been left in the center console. Victims from all three robberies positively identified Tate.

Tate is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and is being held in lieu of $300,000 bond.
