February 1, 2025 – Detectives assigned to the Neighborhood Safety component of the Specialized Investigations Division have arrested Bobby Joe Love Jr., 36, on a second-degree murder indictment in connection with the overdose death of a Nashville man inside a Pennington Avenue apartment in East Nashville on January 2, 2024.
Nathan McEwen, 38, was found deceased by a family member. Drugs were found inside his wallet. The Medical Examiner’s Office determined that McEwen died as the result of fentanyl and cocaine intoxication. Investigation by Neighborhood Safety detectives over the past several months led to the identification of Love as the person who is alleged to have sold drugs to McEwen prior to his death.
Love was taken into custody Friday outside his workplace on 19th Avenue South after he tried to run from detectives. He is also charged with resisting police and evading arrest. His bond is set at $110,000.
Love is a convicted felon who received six-year sentences in 2017 for aggravated assault and unlawful gun possession, a six-year probated Community Corrections sentence in 2014 for facilitating aggravated robbery, and a two-year sentence in 2008 for car burglary.
