A man who worked for a subcontractor on the new Nissan Stadium project is in custody in Alabama on Nashville warrants charging him with threatening to commit an act of mass violence and making a false report of an emergency related to a text message sent Tuesday night threatening to detonate a bomb at the construction site.
Marque Henderson, 47, who resides in Robertson County, Tennessee, was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office in Lawrence County, Alabama, after MNPD Specialized Investigations Division (SID) detectives established his whereabouts and asked Alabama authorities to arrest him.
On Tuesday night, a manager for Turner Construction Company (the lead company on the stadium project) received a text message from a person claiming to be from Saudi Arabia which said there would be a bomb in the building from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. that would blow up the workers. Turner Construction quickly notified the MNPD, while making the decision out of an abundance of caution to call off work at the stadium site on Wednesday.
Investigation by SID detectives led to the discovery that the text threat was communicated via a burner cell phone. Emergency disclosure requests to several service providers ultimately led to the identification of Henderson as the suspect. Detectives determined that Henderson left the Nashville area and headed to Alabama after the threatening text was sent. He will be returned here to face the two felony charges in the near future.
Making threats of harm against persons at construction sites, government institutions, schools, etc., is a serious crime. The MNPD and its partners will use the various emergency processes available to identify persons responsible and hold them accountable.
