Madison Man Charged with Attemped Murder Following Shooting on South 7th Street

(July 22, 2022) A Madison man has been arrested following a shooting on South 7th Street that left a 41-year-old man critically wounded. Antonio Butler, 28, was taken into custody this morning soon after in a nearby apartment in the James Cayce neighborhood.

The victim was in a verbal altercation with another individual when Butler approached them and fired multiple shots at the victim. The altercation between the two men was over a woman. Butler told detectives he was across the street when he heard screaming and fired rounds at the victim to break up the fight.

The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is now critical but stable condition.

Butler fled and was seen entering the nearby apartment from where he was apprehended. Multiple firearms, including two Glock handguns and an AK “Draco”, were found inside the residence.

Butler was charged with attempted criminal homicide and being a felon in possession of a weapon. He is being held in lieu of $418,500 bond.
