San Antonio Taco Company, a longtime restaurant near Vanderbilt University, is set to have new ownership after more than 40 years serving the Nashville community, according to WSMV.
The restaurant, known as SATCO, opened in 1984 at 416 21st Avenue South. It was founded by two San Antonio natives and Vanderbilt alumni, Robin Delmer and Richard Patton, before being purchased in 1990 by Vanderbilt graduates Hunter Atkins and Sandy Haury, who have owned and operated the restaurant for decades.
The sale is expected to be finalized Aug. 3, with the terms of the agreement not being released.
The restaurant will be purchased by Edley’s Restaurant Group founder Will Newman, along with Prentiss Nelson and Chenault Sanders of Blackbird Capital.
Atkins and Haury said the decision to sell came after longtime manager Robert Wilder announced he was ready to retire. That led the owners to begin considering potential buyers.
After going through the process, they said they felt confident the restaurant would be in good hands, citing Newman’s family values, Edley’s successful Nashville locations, the local investment group’s experience, and an understanding of SATCO’s culture among employees and customers.
San Antonio Taco Company has remained a popular gathering spot for Vanderbilt students, alumni, and Nashville residents since opening more than four decades ago.
“We are leaving SATCO in good hands,” Atkins and Haury said.
