Kennie Playhouse Theatre is thrilled to announce their 2022-23 Season themed “Ladies and Laughter.” KPT is honoring women and their contributions to the American Theater Stage. The first play of the season is “The Dance on Widow’s Row” by Samm Art Williams. Directed by Founder and Artistic Director Kenny Dozier.
Set in a coastal community in Port Town, North Carolina, this romantic comedy centers around four widows who defy small town rumors and vicious gossip by hosting a gathering with the town’s most eligible gentlemen. These women are determined to find them a new husband no matter what!
The cast of the play features two of Nashville’s most accomplished and talented seasoned actresses Stella Reed Patterson and Helen Shute Pettaway.
Kennie Playhouse Theatre’s mission is to create a platform that gives the underserved
acting community an opportunity to perform for diverse audiences.
Our approach to this season is twofold. First, to create opportunities for the underserved black women in the acting community with a focus on senior female actors who have fewer acting opportunities at this point in their lives. Second, in the wake of the pandemic and mainly for their safety, many Senior Citizens were kept at their homes or facilities. We are offering special daytime performances of the play for seniors to come see the show in the late morning/early afternoon hours.
‘The Dance on Widow’s Row’ cast will feature Stella Reed Patterson, Helen Shute Pettaway (The voice of the African Street Festival), Keisha Cunningham, Courtney Deckard, Elliott Robinson, Kenny Dozier, John Wiggins, Stacia Brown, Sallie Woodard and Chandra Norman Lipscomb.
