An apartment building went up in flames in downtown Nashville early Wednesday morning in downtown Nashville, according to WKRN.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 500 block of Rep. John Lewis Way North around 5 a.m.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and saw massive flames coming from a flat-roofed high-rise building. The Nashville Fire Department said that sprinklers were activated inside the building, but the fire was on the roof.

Fire personnel reportedly had to extend an aerial ladder to reach the fire from the roof, and make sure that the flames did not spread down to the interior floors.

Residents were able to escape down the stairwells as crews extended ladders to reach the fire and ensured that the blaze didn’t spread down to the inside floors.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
