Final Two Men Wanted in Shooting Near TSU Arrested

November 6, 2024 – MNPD has arrested the final two gang-affiliated men wanted in the October 12 gunfire on Jefferson Street that killed one man and wounded nine other persons.

Corey D. Johnson, 31, and Kiyahn Hayes-Woods, 23, were taken into custody without incident in the 300 block of Berry Street. Hayes-Woods was allegedly carrying a semi-automatic pistol at the time of the arrests.

Both men are accused of firing guns on October 12. Johnson is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Hayes-Woods is charged with felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon.

Johnson is being held in lieu of $80,000 bond. Hayes-Woods is being held in lieu of $94,000 bond.

The investigation into this case shows that five men with local gang affiliations indiscriminately started shooting at each other shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of 27th Avenue North and Jefferson Street. One of the five, Vonquae Johnson, 24, was fatally hit and died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Corey Johnson and Hayes-Woods were there with Vonquae Johnson.

Their rivals, Marquez Davis and DeAnthony Brown, both 24, also alleged shooters, were arrested on October 14 and charged with criminal homicide in Vonquae Johnson’s death. Additionally, Davis has been charged federally with gun possession by a convicted felon.
