Something is brewing in The Gulch. Kettner Coffee, the playful java brand from serial entrepreneur Hannah Schneider is making a comeback. The coffee company with a cult following sold its East Nashville flagship in 2022 but will make its highly anticipated return this summer at Jade & Clover (815 Old Division Street). As a fellow female entrepreneur, founder Giselle Ruggeberg was a perfect partner for Schneider to work with on the pop-up.
Ruggeberg launched the plant and lifestyle concept nearly a decade ago with the goal of transforming the way people connect with plants. What started as a neighborhood botanical gem in Dallas quickly blossomed into a multi-location brand known for its immersive retail experience, custom plant installations and signature “plant bar” where guests can create their own arrangements and terrariums.
While Ruggeberg was transforming the way people see plants, Schneider was changing the way they drink coffee. Kettner was known for its dedication to high-quality beans, chill and welcoming coffee house atmosphere and tongue-in-cheek branding. Cups emblazoned with fun phrases like “will trade cold heart for hot coffee” and “high standards low morals” became hallmarks of the beloved brand’s bold vibe. For Schneider, Kettner was a passion project and labor of love, and the entrepreneur can’t wait to bring the beloved business back to Nashville.
“My goal has always been dedicated to the customer and how they felt when they walked through our doors, so partnering with Giselle and Jade & Clover made total sense for Kettner. We both come from the hospitality space and value customer experience and inclusivity over everything,” says Schneider. “The Gulch is an ideal place to reintroduce this brand that I built from the ground up to a whole new crowd of coffee lovers. Popping up in such a bustling neighborhood is so exciting and partnering with another female business owner makes this next chapter that much sweeter! I’m thrilled to have such a welcoming space to call Kettner’s new home. I hope we can make you laugh, make you smile, or just be a few minutes of positivity throughout your day.”
“What better way to explore the world of Jade & Clover and to fall in love with our natural offerings than with a cup of coffee in hand?” says Ruggeberg. “I am now a proud Nashville resident and am excited about the coffee culture this city has. We offer an immersive, sensory boutique experience and collaborating with another local woman-owned operator is a dream come true.”
Open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Kettner Coffee residency will offer a rotating selection of espresso drinks featuring beans from fellow local business 8th & Roast, tea, matcha and local pastries with a daily option of gluten-free and vegan items.
