Drivers in La Vergne were diverted off of Interstate 24 due to a deadly multi-car crash on Tuesday morning.

At 7:50am, a crash occurred in the westbound lanes on I-24 at mile marker 62 and the Old Hickory Blvd exit. According to Metro Nashville Police, one man, later identified as 39-year-old Daniel Roberts of Murfreesboro, was killed in the crash.

The preliminary investigation indicates three of the vehicles involved were stopped in heavy traffic when a Dodge Ram pickup truck did not stop and struck the rear of a Toyota Solara and traveled overtop of it. The Solara, with the Ram on top of it, crashed into the back of a Kia Sorento then a Honda Insight.

Roberts, the driver of the Solara, died at the scene.

The driver and three passengers of the Sorento were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the Ram refused medical treatment at the scene. He did not show signs of impairment, but indicated he may have been distracted.
