For a quarter of a century, Jonathan Larson’s Rent has inspired us to choose love over fear and to live without regret. Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice, and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent has become a pop cultural phenomenon. with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.

2Rhapsody in Black

Written and performed by LeLand Gantt and developed at NYC’s Actors Studio by Estelle Parsons, Rhapsody In Black is a one-man show that explores LeLand’s personal journey to understand and eventually transcend racism in America. We follow his life story – from an underprivileged childhood in the ghettos of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to teenage experiments with crime and drugs, to scholastic achievement and an acting career that lands adult LeLand in situations where he is virtually the only African American in the room. His efforts to cope with the various psychological effects of consistently being marked “The Other” are recounted in remarkable and exquisitely moving detail, guaranteed to leave lasting impressions.

3Art Making with Dried Vegetation

Join artist Amber Lelli to create a portrait or landscape using dried vegetation and painting or drawing! Dive into conversations on portraiture, identity, and collage while learning how to stencil, cut, and layer dried plant life to create your own design. Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo of themselves and a landscape that they would like to use as inspiration. Interdisciplinary artist Amber Lelli is interested in exploring concepts, asking questions, and choosing the medium and materials best fit for those ideas. Looking through her portfolio, you will see everything from bronze surreal portraiture to innovative marquetry and colorful prints.

4Tommy Emmanuel at Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

Australian-born Tommy Emmanuel is a Grammy-nominated guitar player with a picking style influenced by his musical hero, Country Music Hall of Fame member Chet Atkins. During his four-decade career, Emmanuel has won awards from the Country Music Association of Australia, Australian Recording Industry Association and the Australasian Performing Right Association. In May 2020, he released his Best of Tommysongs album, which collects 24 of his original works, including “Lewis & Clark” and his ode to his daughter, “Angelina.” Atkins welcomed Emmanuel into guitarist nobility by bestowing upon him the title of “CGP,” or Certified Guitar Player, an honor awarded to only four others in history.
