Chief John Drake has announced the appointment of Commander Steven Bowers to lead operations at the MNPD’s North Precinct effective May 1. Bowers, a 16-year police department veteran, will succeed Commander Anthony McClain who died March 9 after suffering a medical emergency in his office in February.
Bowers is a North Nashville native and a graduate of Tennessee State University. He has directed operations at the West Precinct since August of 2024, and prior to that, oversaw the School Safety Division.
“I am fully confident that Commander Bowers will reflect the same dedication to people and commitment to the North Nashville community as Commander McClain,” Chief Drake said. “Commander Bowers knows North Nashville extremely well and has witnessed its evolution from his childhood to now.”
Succeeding Commander Bowers at the West Precinct is Jason Proctor, whose appointment to the rank of commander is effective May 1. As a captain, Proctor, a 24-year MNPD veteran, currently directs the Traffic Division. Prior to that, he was responsible for management of police department facilities and vehicles.
“Captain Proctor’s two decades of public service to Nashvillians in various police department capacities amply qualifies him to lead operations at the West Precinct,” Chief Drake said. “I know that Jason looks forward to working closely with the residents and businesses of West Nashville to solve problems and make a difference in overall community safety.”
Proctor holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Belmont University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Nevada.
