Teachers, principals, community partners and other Metro Schools leaders came together at the Academies of Nashville Conference to celebrate 15 years of the Academies of Nashville and to welcome in a new era.

The Academies of Nashville, a learning model sustained by strong partnerships between our 12 zoned high schools and more than 365 dedicated community partners, is recognized as one of the nation’s best college and career prep programs. Our 35 different academies – covering industries like health care, hospitality, tech and engineering – each give students the opportunity to develop new skills and create their own learning experience, empowering them to make informed decisions after graduation.

At the summer conference, more than 150 teachers, counselors, team leaders, college and career readiness coaches, academy principals, community partners and district support staff came together to learn about the history of the Academies, celebrate schools and teachers, strengthen classroom connections and look ahead to the future of the Academies.

Academy coaches, teachers, students and schools were honored for their work in promoting and helping students develop their potential through advanced academic classes and other early post-secondary opportunities. You can scroll review the full list of award recipients at the end of this blog post.

These accomplishments were celebrated with an eye toward what’s next for the Academies of Nashville – and that next chapter starts with a new logo, introduced by Director of Schools Dr. Adrienne Battle at the Academies of Nashville Awards luncheon.

“The Academies have been a shining light in our district for 15 years now,” Dr. Battle said. “But we know that they can still be more, do more, and reach more career fields to help more of our students find their paths to success.”

New Logo Unveiled

“Even though the logo has changed, the great work that we do in the Academies of Nashville hasn’t changed,” said Jennifer Bell, Director of the Academies of Nashville.

Through collaboration with Alignment Nashville’s A-Team, high school principals, student representatives and other stakeholders, the new Academies logo was designed to align more closely with the Metro Schools brand, incorporating the district’s brand colors.

The graduate – a symbolic piece of the MNPS logo – stands on a pathway to a future of limitless possibilities, reflecting the Academies of Nashville pathways available to students. The MNPS-blue and yellow represent the vibrance, diversity and youthful energy of our students while connoting trustworthiness, excellence, hope and optimism for the future.

And finally, the triangular shape symbolizes the balance and partnership between our Academy of Nashville schools, our community business partners and our students – the stakeholders who make the Academies of Nashville excel.
