July 28, 2026 – Metro Nashville Police Youth Services detectives are investigating the apparent accidental drowning of 2-year-old Viomara Laura Ortiz, who died Monday evening after being found in her family’s backyard pool on Sadler Avenue. Click for More News
According to police, Ortiz’s father had planned to take her swimming around 6 p.m. but stepped away briefly to change. During that time, the toddler ran off, and he spent several minutes searching for her.
Video evidence showed Ortiz had been in the pool for approximately eight minutes before her father found her. He performed CPR and rushed her to the nearest fire hall. She was later taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, where she died.
