Fifteen-year-old James Tremelle Johnson surrendered on August 29 at the East Precinct in connection with Saturday afternoon’s murder of 17-year-old Paul Nicholas Reed outside McFerrin Community Center.

The investigation, led by Homicide Unit Detective Tyler Manivong, led to the identification of Johnson as a suspect. A Juvenile Court petition and arrest order charging Johnson with criminal homicide and unlawful gun possession was issued earlier in the day.

A relative of Johnson brought him to the East Precinct Tuesday. Johnson declined to be interviewed.

Reed arrived at the community center Saturday afternoon in a car with other individuals. The car remained in the parking lot for a time before several persons, including Reed, got out.

Reed ran briefly before collapsing. The car then fled the area.
