December 9, 2024 – Nashville police are investigating three separate incidents of gun violence over the weekend, resulting in three fatalities.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the fatal shooting of Lajames Devon Shannon, 39, who was killed Saturday night while riding a miniature motorbike. The incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. near the intersection of Fain Street and Fairfield Avenue. Shannon was found on the side of the road with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Early Sunday morning, police responded to the Hamilton Creek Recreation Area off Bell Road, where a man was found deceased in the woods. The victim, who has yet to be identified, suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators are working to confirm his identity.

Later on Sunday afternoon, a shooting on I-24 near the Sillman Evans Bridge claimed the life of De’Angelo Black, 20, of Nashville. Black was a rear-seat passenger in a Saturn Ion sedan when shots were fired at the vehicle shortly after it entered I-24 westbound from I-40. According to police, an earlier encounter at a North Nashville gas station and market preceded the shooting.

The Saturn’s driver pulled over at the Shelby Avenue exit ramp to seek help from an officer working nearby. Black was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died. The suspected vehicle involved in the shooting was found unoccupied at a North Nashville apartment complex, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
